Crucial Steve started producing reggae music at the age of 18 when he took his first steps towards building his own studio. Committed to producing roots music in the old school tradition, Steve built his first studio in 2003 around an 8 track 1/4″ reel to reel and a 12 channel analogue mixing desk. Initially using basic synthesizers and second hand drum machines, Steve taught himself the art of MIDI programming and live dub mixing.
Fast forward to 2011 and Righteous Works studio now boasts a fully analogue 24 channel mixing desk and a 24 bit digital multitrack recorder – no computers are used in the production of the music. Crucial Steve is currently recording with a range of artists and musicians, and supplies dubplates to soundsystems throughout the UK and Europe. 2012 sees the release of his debut record on Righteous Works, and there are plenty more records to come!
